You’ve retired and you want to make the most of your golden years. Don’t be a victim of illness or injuries. You can still have a productive, fulfilling life as you age. The key is to keep your spunk and keep moving. Take advantage of five, great ways to boost your energy and stay active after retirement.
Get enough rest!

So many of us fail to get adequate rest. While it’s true that sleep patterns change with age, it’s vital to sleep at least six hours a night on a regular basis. Set up a regular routine at night to promote sleep. Do something relaxing. Try reading, listening to mellow music or watching an enjoyable movie. Take a warm bath. Your body temperature will drop afterward and naturally prepare for rest. Don’t eat anything at least two hours before bedtime. Otherwise, digestive issues could disrupt your sleep.

Take care with what you eat.

You need to eat a balanced diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals. Include plenty of fresh produce, low fat dairy products to build up calcium levels, foods with omega-3 fatty acids to protect your joints, and lean proteins to maintain muscle mass. Eating well can kick start your day.

Take your supplements.

You are unlikely to get everything you need from your diet alone. Find out about essential supplements that can truly help you to maintain a high energy level on a daily basis. Speak with your doctor and pharmacist to find out what is best for your age and gender.

Travel.

Don’t just sit around at home. Go for a nice drive, take a day trip, or plan that getaway that you’ve dreamed about since working days. Strike while the iron is hot and enjoy the gift of time. If you can include others in your trips, you’ll really benefit from social gatherings. Having something to look forward to will make you want to keep going.

Remember to be physically active.

Whether you go to a gym, have an exercise class at the senior center, or walk with friends every day, make it a habit to be on the move. Garden, go on a bike ride or take a swim! You’ll be invigorated. For an extra energy boost in your golf or tennis game, try some Ion Health power wristbands. These can help you power through any activity!

You can enjoy retirement to the fullest. Put some effort into taking care of yourself and remain involved. Don’t let life pass you by!
